Carol Blackburn, OTR/L, CDRS Graduating in 1974 from the University of Florida with a B.S. Degree in Occupational Therapy, Carol worked at Spain Rehabilitation Center in Birmingham from 1974 - 1979 and was Assistant Director for 1 year. She was then Director of Occupational Therapy at Roosevelt Institute in Warm Springs, Georgia for 1 1/2 years. From 1980 - 1990 she was a senior therapist (and served as acting Director) at Humana-Lucerne Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Center in Orlando, Florida. Carol started their first driving program in 1982. She worked part-time in this driving program for 7 years and then full-time for 3 years. She joined Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc. in 1990 as a Senior Driver Rehabilitation Therapist and OT consultant and has continued fulltime in direct client services since. She has been the co-presenter in workshops sponsored by Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc for 24 years.
She has been an active member of AOTA since 1974 and the Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) since 1981. She received charter certification from ADED in 1988 in the specialty areas of neuro-sensory, adaptive car and adaptive van, and became a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist in 1995. She has performed numerous presentations at the AOTA and ADED conferences during the past 25 years.
She was President of the Florida Chapter of ADED in 1992 and served on ADED's Certification Committee 1994 - 1996, playing an instrumental role on the Test Development Committee. She served on the Consumer Advocacy Committee for the Center of Independent Living in Orlando in 1997 - 1998. In 1999 she received the Scholar Award by ADED for her efforts in education in the field of driver rehabilitation.
