Driver Evaluation

Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc. offers a comprehensive occupational therapy driving evaluation that includes a clinical and an in-traffic portion. The evaluation will be performed by an occupational therapy practitioner who is a specialist in driving and community mobility. She will meet you at your house on an agreed date and time.

The first step is the clinical evaluation and typically takes about one to one and 1/2 hours. During this time, the therapist will review pertinent medical history and gather a driving profile. She will perform testing of physical, visual, perceptual and cognitive skills as related to the task of driving.

The second step is the on-road evaluation to observe functional driving skills in various traffic and speed environments. The time on-the-road will depend upon the therapist’s judgment and will be performed in one of our evaluation vehicles. If you are needing to purchase a vehicle, we recommend that you do not purchase one until we have evaluated you. We can make specific vehicle recommendations for particular needs.

An initial driving evaluation may take between 2.5 to 4 hours. We can estimate the time closer when making the appointment date.

She was able to put Adam at ease, and help him to regain confidence in his own abilities. R. Beard
