Indiana BMV Standard Licensure

Visual requirements without restrictions requires 20/40 or better in both eyes.

20/50 in one eye and 20/70 to blind, the requirements are glasses, outside mirrors and daylight driving only.

20/70 both eyes, the requirements are glasses, outside mirrors, daylight driving only, and normal peripheral visual field.

Request for waivered license

Candidacy Procedures will require the following steps:

  • Initial determination by your optometrist or ophthalmologist
  • If a candidate the optometrist or ophthalmologist will fill out the BMV certificate of vision/ eye referral form
  • The ophthalmologist or optometrist will request a driver evaluation
  • Driving evaluation (clinical and behind-the-wheel) to determine client’s safety; completed by Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc.
  • Recommendations are then forwarded to the Indiana BMV Medical Advisory Board for final approval

Our Driving Rehabilitation Specialist can not only assess your safety behind the wheel, but we may recommend compensatory techniques , adaptive mirrors and adapt ions to your vehicle to decrease glare or enhance your ability to see the speedometer.
