Tia Hughes, OTR/L, DRT
Graduating in 1991 from the University of Florida with a B.S. Degree in Occupational Therapy, Tia has worked in a variety of settings, both clinical and academic. She began by working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in burn rehabilitation and orthopedics.

In 1993, she became outpatient supervisor at Sunrise Rehabilitation Hospital in Florida where she worked in rehab driving after attending the Building Blocks and Take the Wheel courses. While at Sunrise, Tia began vision therapy services and developed their comprehensive vision assessment. In 1995 she left Sunrise and worked in skilled nursing facilities where she instituted pre-driving screenings for sub-acute patients. During this same time, she worked part-time for Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc. as a driver rehab therapist.

In 1998 she moved to Albany, GA and worked at a local hospital with both inpatients and outpatients. While there, she created a comprehensive vision screening and pre-driving assessment. She became an instructor at the area OTA Program and later became the fieldwork Coordinator. She returned to Florida in 2002, and worked again with Adaptive Mobility Services, Inc. as a driving rehab therapist until taking a job as the Chairperson of the OTA Program at Florida Hospital School of Allied Healthcare Professions.

She has presented locally and nationally on driving rehabilitation services and vision. She has taught seven OT courses with focus on physical dysfunction and OT. Tia has served on numerous task forces on documentation and reimbursement. Her graduate studies have been in Health Care Administration.
